Fort Walton Beach: Vacation Recap

Fort Walton Beach: Vacation Recap

Many, many months ago I booked our families first trip to Disney World *que squeals* From Southeast Texas it’s about a 13hour drive and we were NOT looking forward to it. Then came hurricane Barry. Barry was scheduled to hit Louisiana Saturday, July 13th. We didn’t check into Disney until Monday but we decided to leave Friday morning to give us plenty of time to get through. We ended up having an easy drive with no traffic or bad weather! On our way I found us a hotel on the beach in Fort Walton, near Destin.

We arrived at sunset and didn’t even bring up our bags before running out to the water. It was beautiful. Once the sun set we drove to get some fast food and then headed back to our hotel to cuddle up for the night. Everyone was exhausted from the drive.

We stayed at Best Western and they had a great breakfast buffet with a variety of hot foods, mini waffles, cereals, juice & coffee. My girls (and hubby) loved the lobby because there was a kids table set up with colors & games.

It was so nice to be able to walk right out to beach. Each guest had 2 beach chairs & an umbrella set up at the beach plus they had a huge container full of buckets, shovels & other beach toys. Because of the hurricane the double red flags on the beach meant we couldn’t swim but it didn’t stop us at all from enjoying the sand and sun. It was easy enough to rinse off in the outdoor showers before jumping in the pool.

Our room had a balcony overlooking the pool and ocean so I was able to sit and watch Randy and Emmy swim while Everly took her afternoon nap.

For dinner we went to The Crab Trap just a quick little drive away. We actually think we could have walked the beach from our hotel to the restaurants! The environment here was super cute and fun. There were a few different restaurants to choose from, some souvenir shops, a playground and a gelato shop! We ate, drank a few beers and let the kids run wild. It’s right off the beach so the girls were covered in sand, weeks later I am still finding sand in my car.

I don’t have any pictures because we had forgotten our chargers and by the end of the day both mine and Randy’s phones had died! But we had so much fun and made some great memories. In fact next year we plan to go back for an entire week!
